Original Dreamgirl, Sheryl Lee Ralph’s award winning body of work in film, television and the Broadway stage includes originating and creating the role of Deena Jones on Broadway in Dreamgirls, which earned her a Tony Award Nomination and a Drama Desk Award Nomination for Best Actress. A popular commentator on HLN’s SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, her extensive film credits include Sister Act II with Whoopi Goldberg, The Mighty Quinn with Denzel Washington, Mistress with Robert De Niro, and Eddie Murphy's Distinguished Gentleman to name a few. Ralph’s performance with Danny Glover in To Sleep with Anger won her the Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Actress.


Voted one of TV's Favorite Moms for her portrayal of loving step mom, Dee on the smash series Moesha, Ralph will be starring in the new Nick at Night series Instant Mom with Tia Mowery and will also be seen in the new SHOWTIME series, Ray Donovan.  Ralph recently turned up the heat in NBC’s SMASH as “momanger” to Jenifer Hudson with great reviews.  A critically acclaimed author, Ralph’s book Redefining DIVA debuted to rave reviews. True to form, her book is much more than a gossip-fest but a hip, modern guide to living. A passionate AIDS activist, Ralph is founding director of the DIVA Foundation and producer/creator of the longest running musical AIDS benefit in the country, DIVAS Simply Singing! Ralph has added the critically acclaimed one-woman show, Sometimes I Cry, written, directed and performed by Ralph herself, to her list of outstanding credits.
